Cheap beer in Times Square
Times Square is a pre-theater drinking neighborhood, and its bars are built for it — Irish pubs and taverns on the side streets off Broadway, hotel rooftops above them, and very little that is cheap by accident. The listed prices sit toward the top of the Manhattan range, with the side-street pubs holding the floor and the rooftops well above it. Happy hour is the thing to plan around here: nearly every window in this neighborhood is weekday and lands squarely in the three-to-seven block before curtain, so the gap between the happy-hour price and the listed price is wider here than almost anywhere else on the site.
