Cheap beer in Chelsea
Chelsea drinks in three separate registers on the same page: the old Eighth and Ninth Avenue bars and gay bars near the bottom of the range, the restaurant and gallery bars in the middle, and the hotel rooftops at the top, where the price roughly doubles. Walking a few blocks changes what you pay more than in most neighborhoods. Happy hour is well documented here and unusually weekend-friendly — while most windows are the standard weekday four-to-seven, several of these bars run theirs all seven days, and a couple hold it open all day Sunday.
